Understanding the Jargon

Spring Gauge
The gauge of the coils determines the firmness and support of the mattress. The spring gauge rating refers to how thick the spring is – the lower the number, the thicker the spring and the thicker the spring, the firmer the mattress.

Gauge Rod
The gauge rod is around the perimeter of the mattress and provides extra strength and support.

Firmness rating
Level 1 is the softest type of mattress, whereas level 5 is the firmest type of mattress available.

Orthopaedic beds
Orthopaedic beds are designed with the main objective to support the spine and back, and tend to be firmer than normal mattresses.

Rose Mattress
The Rose mattress offers quality comfort at an extremely affordable price. Perfectly suited for occasional or children’s beds, the Rose mattress has a 13.5 Gauge spring unit which means the thickness of the springs ensures the mattress isn’t too firm. The 6 gauge rod edge helps the mattress retain its shape. The deep quilt and layers of padding adds comfort and ensures this mattress will last.

Buckingham Mattress (or Firm Mattress)
The Buckingham mattress is also great value for money and is suitable for an adult’s bed. The three layer filling makes for restful sleep while the strong spring gauge of 12.5 means it will be long-lasting. The firmness rating of 4 means it is a suitable orthopaedic mattress and offers maximum support and comfort. The vertical handles make it easy to turn the mattress over which is recommended every four weeks.

Elizabeth Mattress
The Elizabeth mattress provides excellent support and comfort, at an affordable price. The four layers of filling mean this mattress has a luxurious depth of 21.6cm supported by a 13.5 Gauge spring unit. It has a firmness rating of 4 and is finished off with a wide panelled quilt and covered with a high quality tufted damask cover.

Opal Mattress
The high density spring unit on the Opal mattress ensures lasting strength and superb comfort. The double layer spring unit and the four layer filling make this one of our most comfortable mattresses. The opal mattress has a firmness rating of 4 and has vertical handles to make turning the mattress over a little easier. The tufted panel is flag stitched and finished off with a cotton/viscose lilac check design.

Regency Mattress
The Regency mattress is our only mattress with an individual pocket sprung system, which means each spring is encased in one of 1000 individual pockets, making sure you have a perfect nights sleep every night. The Regency mattress has a firmness rating of 3 and is surrounded by four layers of filling, but the air vents mean the mattress stays well ventilated to make sure it lasts. It is finished in Belgian gold damask fabric to give a touch of luxury.

Memory 70 mattress
The Memory 70 mattress is our most high tech mattress on offer, incorporating material conceived by NASA to make sure you get the best night’s sleep. A high quality 800 pocket sprung mattress is generously topped with 70mm of visco elastic memory foam, ensuring complete comfort. The memory foam adapts its shape to fit the user over time, molding to the body with every nights sleep. This mattress does not require turning due to the visco elastic fibre. A must for anyone looking for a luxurious slumber.
