Pinesolutions Commitment to The Environment
UPDATE!
Pinesolutions are starting off the year with some great news! We have gained our Carbon Neutral status! Working with
The CarbonNeutral Company our carbon emmissions have been measured and we have agreed a scheme for offsetting them in their entirety. This is a great achievement for us but we are still looking for ways to improve, decreasing our emmissions as well as offsetting them. This year we are investigating a scheme where we can ensure planting trees to replace those used in furniture construction. We will also continue our drive to encourage furniture manufacturers to only use wood from sustainable sources. So watch this space for future updates and environmental impact improvements!
Things are changing at PineSolutions....
We've become increasingly concerned with the impact we're having on the environment and have decided to act. It's proving to be a real challenge to get greener in a growing business but it's a journey we're committed to.
What we've done....
One of the first things we did was to address how we actually arrived to work in the first place. After a change in lifestyles, only two members of staff now use a car to get to work. For the rest it's either public transport, walking or pedal power! We're occassionally wetter as a result of braving the elements to get to the phones at 0830 but we're fitter, and without having to join a gym.
Our product selection is obviously a real driver for our efficiency aspirations. We spend a great deal of time getting furniture from sustainable sources. We're not there yet, but by showing which lines we're confident in their providence, we hope to start changing the market's buying behaviour.
Our new logistics manager is currently spending all his time trying to optimise our delivery runs. This means we use less fuel getting furniture to happy customers, and it cuts down our carbon footprint.
What we're doing now....
We're currently looking into the total carbon footprint of our operations. Did you know an average office burns 7 to 12 litres of fuel oil per year per metre? Neither did we until we looked into it. And did you also know that some of our logistics companies do over a million miles per year? They're not all for PineSolutions deliveries, but it makes you think about how we can get better at reducing our impact.
What we're going to do....
And it doesn't stop there. We're really excited about a horse we've just befriended. Dobbin (not her real name, we've had to protect her identity as the owner is media shy!) is allergic to hay (seriously) and in a stroke of green genius we've committed to providing all the shredded paper this horse needs to sleep on. Apparently this provides really good compost too so if anyone out there is interested in completing the organic cycle of nature, and want's to plant using PineSolutions finest manure, you know where we are. And they say that diversification is dead in business....
